Grandma's Homemade Noodles

I lived with my grandparents for a few years and while being there I had the priviledge of learning a few cooking things from my grandma. I think that life is always moving so fast and there are important things to be learned in the simple things...like making your own homemade noodles. I stopped out at the farm the other day and my grandma made me homemade chicken noodle soup. It is something I grew up on and love (especially now that it is getting chilly out!) Homemade noodles is something my family makes and I wanted to share it with you folks. It is a comfort food!

Living Out Of Our Comfort Zone

This is something I wrote quite a few years back...it popped up in my facebook timeline feed. I read it and was wowed by my own writing and words! So I thought it was worth sharing again.

My cowgirl thoughts for today are on living out of our comfort zone. When I was little my aunt married a real life cowboy who lived out in Colorado. As a small child we went on a vacation to visit them. Part of the time they spent down in a canyon and part of the time they would spend up on the Mountain.
On these vacations my favorite time was spent on the mountain with the cowboys. I can remember our first trip up the mountain to the cabin we would stay in like it was yesterday. We got out and it was a small cabin with a corral outside. The cabin had an upstairs that was 2 rooms divided by a curtain, cowboys slept on one side of the curtain and we slept on the other side. The cabin had no electricity or running water.
I remember when my dad finally asked my aunt, “Where is the bathroom?”
She informed us it was outside and then proceeded to take us over a little bridge that had a small stream running under it then down a little path to a small building. This small building was a real life outhouse! My dad’s biggest concern was that one of us kids would have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I personally think my dad was just scared that he might run into a bear or something while he was out using it.
We usually spent a couple days up on the mountain and my dad would get to ride with the cowboys as they would gather cattle. It was very real to us that we were living out of our comfort zone. I felt like a cowgirl everyday we were up on the mountain. This is where my cowgirl dreams started and have stirred in me ever since.

DIY: How To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies

I don't know about you but the fruit flies have been bad around here lately. It is one of those things that happens from having the garden vegetables around. But is seems like once they get started they are so hard to get rid of...so I am sharing with you a way I have found to help get rid of them. It is super easy and super DIY!

Items You Need:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar!
2. A Jar or Glass of some sort!
3. Dish Soap!
4. Water!

All you need to do is fill your jar up about half way with the Apple Cider Vinegar and then you put a few drops of dish soap in your jar. After that you fill the rest up with water. It creates bubbles like dish soap naturally would. The trick is the fruit flies get caught in the bubbles (you can see a few in my picture.) I have done this several times when I have had them bad and it works everytime and its easy!

Hoodie Weather Has Arrived

I love hoodie weather! Because I tend to go comfortable when dressing...especially on my days off from work. So I had to share with you this new awesome hoodie! This one is a Halloween edition. It is a double hooded sweatshirt that says Boo! I sized down in this sweatshirt because they are pretty strechy. This is from Mindy Mae's Market...It is one of my new favorite places to shop! They have all kinds of these hoodies! I love to pair some destroyed denim for a casual look!

DIY: How To Make Your Own Cute Dish Soap Dispenser

I love all things cute and crafty...I also love wine once in awhile...

I also like things to look pretty and not just have plastic dish soap containers sitting on my sink. So this is a unique and easy DIY way to make a cute dispenser.

All you will need is two things:

1. A empty wine bottle of your choice (wine bottles are unique...I chose one that fits my decor and is a local winery here in Iowa.)

2. A liquor pourer (these can be found on Amazon) They have plastic ones or stainless steel...it just depends on the price you want to pay or the look you want.

So all you do is fill it up with your dish soap and then it will pour out of your cute bottle whenever you need it. Super cute and so easy! This also makes a great gift!

The Reason Why I Love Cowboys

I had to pick my 5 year old nephew up from school today. We went for an ice cream cone and had a nice little chat while we hung out. Out of the blue my nephew asked this...

Why do you love cowboys so much? (He is smart and knows me very well.)

After I got home I got to thinking about it...and reminiscing a little bit.

I know what your thinking this Iowa gal that mostly grew up around my grandparents farms where your chances of seeing "real cowboys" were slim to none is crazy. My extent of seeing cowboys were watching John Wayne movies and westerns with my parents. Some would say I have no business loving cowboys. But the thing is I do.

So my answer to my 5 year old nephews question of why I love cowboys so much is this...

The Little Red Aligator Skin Shoes

I ran across this picture awhile back and just had to chuckle at my awesome style! As I looked at the picture all I could think about was those awesome red shoes. Fashion for me clearly started at a young age. I loved and I mean lovvveeeddd these red shoes!!!

I can remember getting these red shoes and thinking they were just it. I wore them everywhere (even with socks!) The strap went around my ankle and they were red alligator skin (clearly fake!) They also had this little round piece on the top down by the toes that had little diamonds on it. They were incredible for someone my age!
